John Gerald Fontenot

Opelousas Funeral services for John Gerald Fontenot, 71, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006, in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial and interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.

Father Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.

Mr. Fontenot, a resident of Opelousas, died at 3:50 p.m. in the Opelousas General Health System.

Mr. Fontenot was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church and a U. S. Army Veteran. He was an outdoorsman, an avid hunter, and enjoyed doing taxidermy as a hobby. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Mary Anne Stelly Fontenot of Opelousas; one son, Lessley Fontenot and wife, Elise Dupuis Fontenot of Opelousas; one daughter-in-law, Angela Glasscock Fontenot of Irving, TX; brother, Raphael Fontenot and wife, Gayle of Opelousas; sister-in-law, Irma Fontenot of Opelousas; and three grandchildren: Lauren, Dennis, and Lessley Pookie Fontenot, all of Opelousas.

Mr. Fontenot was preceded in death by one son, Marcus Fontenot; his parents: Mr. and Mrs. Ulysse Fontenot, Sr., one brother, Ulysse Fontenot, Jr., and four sisters: Hazel Sloane, Verna Macip, Willie Mae Soileau, and Nora Dell Guillory.

Pallbearers will be Wilson Lee Stelly, Benny Nele II, Carl Fontenot, Brian Kent Fontenot, Randy Soileau, and Dennis Fontenot. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Nele, Ronnie Leger, Tony Gaudet, and David Briggs.

Visiting hours will be observed on Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home. On Saturday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.
