OPELOUSAS - James "Jimmy" Mizzi passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 64.
Jimmy was a native and lifelong resident of Opelousas. He recently retired from Fugro Chance Inc. where he was a safety manager for over 30 years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #11270. Jimmy was a graduate of USL and a certified Occupational Health and Safety Technologist. One of Jimmy's great loves was that of music. He was a drummer playing in a number of bands throughout his career. He also loved traveling and was able to travel throughout the US and Canada.
Jimmy was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years Susan Tatman Mizzi, two sons Nicholas Mizzi of Opelousas and Jeffrey Mizzi and wife Stevie of Duson, and two grandchildren Reese Mizzi and Sol Mizzi of Duson. Also left behind are his sisters Donna Thibodeaux and husband Dennis and JoAnne Guidroz and husband Steve all of Opelousas, brother-in-law Douglas Tatman and wife JoAnn of Mire, La., and sister-in-law Annette Golz and husband Bill of Scottsdale, Arizona, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He now rests with his parents Halton and Lois Dugas Mizzi.
Funeral services for Jimmy Mizzi will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas at 11:00 AM with Msgr. Keith Derouen officiating services. Visitation will take place at Sibille Funeral Home on Sunday, March 12 from 2:00 - 9:00 PM and again on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be prayed in his honor Sunday evening at 6:30 PM.
