Jessie Williamson

March 8, 1933 — June 23, 2014

Opelousas Jessie Lou Devall Williamson, 81, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas on Wednesday, June 25, from 5:00 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will held at the Louisiana United Memorial Methodist Church in Opelousas on Thursday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Kirkwood Family Cemetery in Zachary. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen Fife.

Jessie Lou was born in Zachary, LA on March 8, 1933, and was a long time resident of Opelousas, LA. She was a member of the Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served in the choir and attended Kay Ardoins Sunday school class. Under the direction of Dr. Jolly Harper, she was one of the original founders of Young At Heart which continues today.

Jessie Lou was preceded in death by her parents Mattie Lou and Jesse F. Devall, Sr. and her devoted husband, O.N. Williamson, Jr. She is survived by her children, Jackie Wallace, Julie Vorbeck and Randy Williamson, as well as five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. She was happiest when having her grandchildren visit and they lovingly referring to her as LuLu.

Jessie Lou graduated from Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School in Baton Rouge with an R.N. degree. In later years, she obtained a certification in Gerontology. She was Director of Nurses at Senior Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Opelousas for more than 20 years enjoying every minute of her time there loving the residents and staff members alike. She was an enthusiastic bridge player and a member of the American Contract Bridge League and Acadiana Bridge Club, having proudly obtained Gold Life Master status.

The family would like to express deep and sincere gratitude to the wonderful friends who showed such love and concern during the illness and death of our loved one. Memorials may be made to cancer research for cure of Myleodysplastic Syndrome MDS.
