Jerry Cormier

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Wayne Cormier, age 68, will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville. Reverend Father Kenneth Domingue will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Cormier was a longtime resident of Opelousas and was currently residing in Leonville. He passed away at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was the previous owner of Jerrys Grocery Store in Opelousas and has been retired for many years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, boating, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He would enjoy working with his hands doing arts and crafts projects. He cherished his time with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his two sons, David Chad Cormier and wife, Nikki of Alexandria and Jeremy Todd Cormier and wife, Christy of Opelousas one daughter, Aimee Cormier LeBlanc and husband, Chris of Opelousas one brother, Robert J. Cormier III of Lafayette one sister, Sugie Cormier Blanchard of Lafayette eight grandchildren: Caleb, Robert, Aaron, Cameron, Ali, Alex, Adam, and Ryan his former wife and friend, Beryl Cormier of Broussard and his loving companion, Tina Faul of Eunice.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert James Cormier, Jr. mother, Lorraine Cormier Bergeron and grandparents, R. J. Cormier, Sr. and Emily Cormier and T.P. Bertrand and Mable Bertrand.

Pallbearers will be Chad Cormier, Todd Cormier, Chris LeBlanc, Alex LeBlanc, Adam LeBlanc, and Caleb Cormier. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Cormier and Sugie Blanchard.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Friday, visitation will continue in the funeral home at 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening in the funeral home.
