Lawtell A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, LA, for Mr. Jean Gene Duplechain. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell, LA. Rev. Father Ted Broussard will celebrate the Mass.
Gene was living in Lafayette at the Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home when he passed, on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the age of 80.
Gene had worked as a Farmer and in the Construction Industry when he was able to work. He enjoyed living in the country and spending time with his family and friends. Gene loved listening to country and western music. He is going to be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his brothers Hilton Duplechien and wife, Angie of Lafayette Joseph Leroy Duplechien and wife, Marie of Gonzales sister, Edina D. Smith of Eunice and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clophed and Marie Alexandrine Thibodeaux Duplechien brothers, Polastron, Ovelien, Lloyd, Jean Baptiste, and Leon Duplechien and one sister, Armeza Oliver.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home Dr. Mike Mounir, Dr. Richard Fei, Dr. Edward F. Breaux, Dr. E. Paul Breaux, Dr. Geoffery Mire, Dr. Leon LaHaye, Dr. Francine Manuel, Dr. Wael Karim, and Dr. Kenneth Champagne.
