SSG Jarred Seth Fontenot
Port Barre Funeral services for SSG Jarred Seth Fontenot, 35, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
The Military Chaplain- Major Clemete Maruicio will officiate the services.
Mr. Fontenot was a native of Port Barre and resident of Fort Carson, Colorado. He died at 3:18 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, while serving his country.
During his eighth grade year, Jarred was the starter for the football team and excelled greatly during his high school years. He was a 1991 graduate of Port Barre High School.
He joined the LA National Guards in 1990. During his first deployment to Iraq, he was a member of the 256th Bridgade. He was currently serving his second tour in Iraq as an Infantryman in the U. S. Army with the Alpha Company 2-12 Infantry Unit of Ft. Carson, Colorado. He was a SSG while in the Military. He was the recipient of the following awards and badges: Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal w Bronze Service Star, Bronze Star Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Weapons Qualification Badge. He was also a member of the Port Barre VFW and the American Legion.
He was previously employed as a former Port Barre Police Officer and a former St. Landry Parish Sheriff Deputy. He was a family man who liked to live life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially playing with his children and watching television together. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, camping, and target shooting. Some of his other pastime activities include: wrestling with the boys, mud riding, bicycling, rock climbing, scuba
ing, and restoring hot rods.
He was a loving husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Dana Lamke Fontenot; three sons: Cameron Seth Fontenot, Logan Lee Fontenot, and Mason Paul Fontenot, all of Port Barre; one daughter, Macy Lynn Fontenot of Port Barre; one sister, Kallie Jo Fontenot Leipold of Raeford, North Carolina; his maternal grandparents: Charles and Dorothy Marks of Port Barre; his parental guardians, Robert and Kathy Sylvester of Port Barre; two brothers: Pfc. Christopher Blair Sylvester of Ft. Wainewright, Alaska; and Michael Brice Sylvester of Port Barre; mother-in-law, Bett Dedon of Port Barre; father-in-law, Robert Lamke, Sr. of Port Barre; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Courville and husband, Barry; Danielle Lamke, Dakota Dedon and Delaney Dedon, all of Port Barre; three brothers-in-law: John Lamke and wife, Kelly of Gonzales; Robert Lamke, Jr. and wife, Alesia of Port Barre; and Arthur Lamke and wife, Pam of Port Barre; three nephews: James Ryan Leipold, Joshua Michael Leipold, and Justus Von Leipold, all of Raeford, North Carolina; Two nieces, Michaela Sylvester of Maryland ; and Annie Elizabeth Lamke of Port Barre; aunts and uncles: Jeanette Fontenot Gray of Boston, Massachusetts; Keith Marks and wife, Faith of Port Barre; and Danny Alex Stoute and wife, Maxine, of Port Barre; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
Jarred was preceded in death by his parents: Marshall Fontenot and Jackie Stoute Fontenot; paternal grandparents: Douglas Fontenot, Jr. and Agnes Ledoux Fontenot.
