OPELOUSAS- A Mass of Christian Burial, for Jane Ortego, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Ortego, graduated to a greater life in the kingdom of Heaven on July 9, 2017, just shy of her 95th birthday. Born in Grand Prairie to Mr. and Mrs. Hebert Ardoin, Jane attended high school in Grand Prairie before marrying and moving to Washington, Louisiana. She will be remembered by many through her 20+ years of dedicated service at Sandoz Hardware in Opelousas. While raising her family she was active in the Yambalee and received many awards for her yam dishes and recipients of her pralines will tell you there were none better. She was a lifelong and dedicated parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church. Those who knew Jane will testify to her warm heart and giving nature; and as a mother-in-law she was simply the best. Jane was the glue that held her family together. Jane, Mom, Momo will be sorely missed but she will finally be at peace and for that we are all thankful.
She is survived by her 3 sons, John Ortego and wife, Karen of Carrollton, TX, Bernard Ortego and wife, Linda of Magnolia, MS, Kenneth Ortego and wife, Debra of Las Vegas, NV; 3 daughters, Carolyn Cox and husband, Don of Tuscon, AZ, Shelly Harless and husband, Wade of Pensacola, FL, and Marsha Deaville and husband, Don also from Texas; and her sister Merlyn Ardoin Fontenot. She was a grandmother to nine and a great-grandmother to fourteen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hebert and Elizabeth Ardoin; and one brother, Colvin Ardoin.
The family requests visitation be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
The family would like to offer thanks to the staff and caregivers at Prompt Succor Nursing Home and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, and a special thanks to her doctor, Dr. Michael Montgomery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas, LA.
