James Andrew Bill Wheaton, Sr.
Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. James Andrew Bill Wheaton, Sr., age 74, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre. The Reverend Nicky Trahan will celebrate the Mass.
Bill was born and raised in Port Barre and was a long-time resident of Port Barre. He died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at his home.
Bill was married to his loving wife, Verval Marie Savant for 54 years. He was a dedicated father to his five children. In his lifetime, he was a hardworking man who loved farming. He farmed for over 40 years and was named Farmer of the Year in 1986. Before farming, he worked as a boiler fireman in the oilfield. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved raising animals especially his little rat terrier, Lilly. He grew large vegetable gardens which he generously shared with everyone. He loved an old time family boucherie, making boudin and cracklins for all while listening to his Cajun music.
Survivors include his wife, Verval Marie Savant Wheaton of Port Barre; his son, James Andrew Andy Wheaton, Jr. and wife, Lora Hardy Wheaton of Port Barre; his daughters: Billy Jo Muller and husband, Stan Muller of Washington; Rebecca Becky Hardy and husband, Sammy Hardy of Port Barre; Brigitte Ann Wyble and husband, Mike Wyble of Port Barre; and Donna Meaux of Rayne; brother, Wilfred Beb Wheaton of Port Barre; sister, Loretta Totsy Hargroder of Port Barre; and eleven grandchildren: Natalie Chelette, Christie Vercher, Joshua Hardy, Jake Wyble, Alison Muller, James Andrew Wheaton III, Derek Wyble, Mark Muller, Desiree Wheaton, Sam Hardy, and Tracie Wheaton; also six great-grandchildren: Grantt and Grace Chelette, Kyle Hebert and Drake Hardy, Eli Vercher, and Cohen Dean; four godchildren: Johnny Ray Hargroder, Sharon Devillier, June Wheaton Griffin, and Gabriel Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Lillia Emmonet and Laws Wheaton; his brothers: Wilbert, Howard, and Laws Toto; his sisters: Cidalis Sis Darbonne, and Annie Lou Young; two nieces: Priscilla Hargroder Soileau and Gloria Young Smith.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons: Joshua Hardy, Jake Wyble, Andrew Wheaton, Derek Wyble, Mark Muller, and Sam Hardy.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 10 p.m. On Thursday, visitation will continue from 7 a.m. until the time of services.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
