OPELOUSAS-A Mass of Christian Burial for James Richard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Father Austin Leger will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
James "Jim" Richard, departed peacefully at the War Veterans Home in Jennings on Friday night.
He was born and raised in Leonville and left there at the early age of 17 to serve our country in World War II with the 43rd Infantry and the Korean War with the 25th Infantry.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Briley Richard, his youngest son, and best friend, James Randy Richard, and his beloved grandson, James Brandon Bennett. He leaves behind 2 sons, Dale Savoy and his wife, Nancy, Greg Savoy, 3 daughters, Debbie Savoy, Mitzi Richard Moore and her husband, Robert, and Cindy Richard High and her husband, Donnie and one daughter-in-law, Donna Richard. He also leaves behind 6 grandsons and 6 granddaughters, 8 great-grandsons and 9 great-granddaughters, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
His legacy will live on through all of those who loved him so dearly.
Visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel.
