James R. Soileau
Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. James R. Soileau, age 89, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Soileau was a native of Church Point and a long time resident of Opelousas and was currently living at the Flannery Oaks Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. He passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the Ochsner Clinic in Baton Rouge.
Mr. Soileau was a United States Army veteran having served his country during World War II. He was the owner of the Southwestern Produce Company, he was a retired school bus driver for St. Landry Parish and he also served as a St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Deputy for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. James S. Soileau and wife Pam of Baton Rouge and Glenn A. Soileau and wife Judy of Hattiesburg, Miss; two sisters, Patricia Woodson and husband Pearly of Opelousas and Betty Mistric of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Beth Soileau, Bobby Soileau, William Soileau, and Scott Davis; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Labbe Soileau and his parents, Daisy and Elizabeth Cary Soileau.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and visitation will continue from 8 a.m. on Thursday until the time of services.
A Rosary service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
