James, affectionately known as Ken, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the Opelousas General Health System, surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 18, 1941, Opelousas, Ken was a graduate of Port Barre High School, where he earned All-American honors in football in 1959. He went on to have a fulfilling and successful career in the oil industry.
During his lifetime, Ken was proud of many accomplishments. He was a big fan of sports and he played college football for Southwest Mississippi as well as SLI, (now called the University of Louisiana at Lafayette). His passion for horses was well-known; he was a lifelong member of both the Quarter Horse Breeder's Association and the American Quarter Horse Breeders Association, where he not only bred but also trained thoroughbred and quarter horses.
Ken was a man who cherished his family deeply, embodying a love that was evident to all who knew him. He was married for 62 wonderful years to Lou Ann Hardy Mistric, who resides in Port Barre. Together, they raised a family filled with love and laughter. Ken is survived by his sons, Mac Mistric and his wife, Shelia, also of Port Barre, and Shane Mistric and his wife, Stacy, from Carencro; and his daughter, Crystal Mistric Efferson and her husband, Johnny, of Springfield, LA. Ken's sister, Sheryl Mistric, also of Port Barre, grieves his loss along with his beloved grandchildren: Danielle Hollier and her husband, Cade; Dustin Mistric and his wife Chelsea; Shelbie Smith and her husband, Alex; Sydney Olivier and her husband, Andrew; Jordan Mistric; Christen Meche; Brock Meche; and Alyssa Efferson. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Reed, Hayes, Levi, Ivy, Elijah, Oaklynn, Aiden, Lucah, Gentry, Owen, and Cameron.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Ken was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic community, where he contributed his time and energy, further illustrating his deep commitment to both family and faith.
Ken Mistric will be remembered fondly for his loving nature, his hearty laugh, and his unwavering dedication to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His parents, Dalfrey and Gertie Lahaye Mistric, and one great- grand child, Ainsley preceded him in death, having laid the foundation for the values that Ken carried throughout his life.
