Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. James Carey Leger, Sr., age 68, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Old Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
James was a native and longtime residence of Port Barre. He died on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in the Opelousas General Health System. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather, He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include one son, James Carey Leger, Jr. and wife, Cegie of Port Barre one daughter, Rayiona Leger Hanks and husband, Paul of Arnaudville brothers, Bernard Sr., Charles Leger, sister, Marie Dupre half sisters, Helen Combo, and Junita Cashio, grand children, Anthony Lanclos, Jr., Angie Lanclos, Kayne, Jolie, Olivier Leger, step grandchildren, Michelle and Sabrina Hanks, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lea Galloway Leger parents: Fabien Fab and Marie Webber Leger soninlaw, Anthony Lanclos, Sr., half brothers, Junior, Lee, Harry, Joseph OB and Avie Leger, half sisters, Ora Mae Soileau Ann Milligan, Dorris Smith, and Ruth Bourgeois.
The family request visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Thursday, February 20, 2014, beginning at 12:00 noon with an all night wake until time of service on Friday.
A rosary service will be prayed on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
