Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Mr. James W. Guillory, known to many as Jim. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum in Opelousas. Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass. Musical selections will be provided by Jodi Bollich.
Mr. Jim passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at his residence in Lawtell following a long illness. He was a native of Lawtell and made a career selling Woodmen of the World Life Insurance for over 30 years. He also farmed various crops and crawfish ponds throughout his lifetime.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. He was stationed in Germany and France for 3 years, where he transported personnel and equipment and interpreted French for the American officers.
He and his wife were very active socially in many clubs including: French Club, Elks Lodge of Opelousas, CODOFIL, and Les Amis Acadienne through which they took several trips abroad and within the U.S. Jim was also involved in the Knights of Columbus Council 3409 of Opelousas, President of Amy Bradford Ware for 8 years, from 19711979, President and member of the Lawtell Volunteer Fire Dept. for many years and recently was made an Honorary Member. He was also a parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell.
No one remained a stranger for very long, as he befriended every one he encountered. He touched many peoples lives, both young and elderly. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He and his wife of 69 years, Shirley Moreau Guillory raised a family of 6 children: Jean Albarado of Lafayette Doris Guillory of Brandon, FL Betty Sinclair and her husband, Jamie of Magnolia, TX Kay Guillory, Judy Landry and her husband, Patrick and Wayne Guillory, all of Lafayette. He also leaves six grandchildren: Denise Dahlgreen and husband, Keith of Baton Rouge Michael Joubert and wife, Alexis of Lafayette Tricia Joubert and partner, Anthony Adams of Lafayette Sarah Landry and Nicholas Landry, also of Lafayette and Charlie Sinclair of Magnolia, TX. He was also greatgrandfather to William and Caroline Dahlgreen of Baton Rouge Cash Adams and Jack, Luke, and Olivia Joubert, all of Lafayette.
He was predeceased by his parents, Theogene and Clara Boudreaux Guillory brother, Elmer Guillory halfbrother, Earl Prejean and halfsisters, Beulah P. Richard, Rosa P. Guidry, Annie P. Olivier, Dana G. Lavergne, and Clotilde P. Segar.
Pallbearers will be Michael Joubert, Nicholas Landry, Pat Landry, Jamie Sinclair, Keith Dahlgreen, and Calvin Belleau. Wayne Guillory will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home, 2309 George Drive, Opelousas on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from 2 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Annette Stanford, Heart of Hospice staff, nurses, and caregivers Dr. John Mickey and his nurse, Lisa Peyton Fr. Ted Broussard and staff of St. Bridget Catholic Church for weekly visits to the home and the staff at the VA Medical Center in Alexandria.
