Donald Hollier

Opelousas- Funeral services for Mr. Donald Hollier, age 70, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde. Interment will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Ville Platte. Fr. Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Hollier was a native of Ville Platte and a long-time resident of Opelousas. He died on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

He has been employed at Hollier Impl. since 1963 and later became a partner with his brothers. His favorite pastime was being with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors and hunting squirrels, cooking for others, and restoring Antique Cars. He was a member of the Opelousas Elks Lodge, LouisianaTexas Fishing Rodeo Association for over 18 years, and Farm Bureau Association. He enjoyed watching sports on television and was a huge NASCAR Fan. He previously was a drag racing participant and coached a local T-ball team.

Mourning his death yet cherishing his memories are his wife of 45 years, Mrs. Wanda Dupre Hollier of Opelousas; two sons: David Hollier and wife, Janice of Katy, TX; and Tommy Hollier and wife, Tammy of Opelousas; two daughters: Chrissy Hollier of Opelousas; and Tammy McCormick and husband, Randy of Lafayette; three brothers: Phillip Hollier, Jr. and wife, Bonnie of Ville Platte; Richard Hollier and wife, Kathy of Kinder; and Joe Hollier and wife, Libby of Madison, Mississippi; four sisters: Helen Powell and husband, Dubby of Ville Platte; Rita Fontenot of Natchitoches; Pat Deshotel and husband, Red of Ville Platte; and Margaret Hollier of Ville Platte; 12 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two sons: Michael and Paul Hollier; his parents: Phillip Hollier, Sr. and Odile Dore Hollier; and one brother-in-law, R. A. Fontenot.

Pallbearers will be David Hollier, Tommy Hollier, Jordan Hollier, Jacob Hollier, Richard Hollier, and Randy McCormick. Honorary Pall bearers will be his fellow members of the Elks Lodge, LATX Fishing Rodeo Association, and his local farming friends.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, May 17, 2009, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. and the Elks Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home. A Remembrance service will follow by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Donald to the American Cancer Society.
