James F. Elder, Sr.
Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. James Franklin Elder, Sr. age 92, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Private Interment will follow at a later date.
Father Angelo Cremaldi will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Elder was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the St. Landry Extended Care Hospital. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was the Credit Manager and a Lumber salesman for many years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading, writing, and his interest in politics. He was a loving and a devoted father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include one son, James F. Elder, Jr. and wife, Sue of Opelousas; two daughters: Denise Duplechain and husband, Greig of Port Barre; and Mary T. Simon of Opelousas; eight grandchildren: Shawn Elder of Opelousas; Michelle Doran of Baton Rouge; Benjamin Faul of Dallas, TX; Sara Faul and Nick Faul, both of Port Barre; William Dimonde of Ft. Benning, GA; Brandy Dimonde and Matthew Simon, both of Opelousas; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews: Roy Elder of Opelousas; Faye McBroom of Raceland; Helen Sutherlin of Opelousas; Donald Elder of Opelousas; Joanna Elder Boland of Birmingham, Alabama; Edna Elder Brown of Houston; Frankie Elder of Washington; Joe Elder, Jr. of Mansura; Robert Elder of Lafayette; and Bobbie Elder of Baton Rouge.
Mr. Elder was preceded in death by his parents: William S. Elder and Virginia Huckabay Elder; eight brothers and sisters, and his former wife, Elaine Byrd Elder.
Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, December 14, 2009, from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00am until 12:30 p.m.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
