James Clifton Dupre, Sr.

Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. James Clifton Dupre, Sr., age 83, will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2007 with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Landry Mausoleum.

The Msgr. Romero will conduct the services. Musical selections will be provided by Mrs. Ann Purser. The Readers for the Mass will be Octave Pavy and Marvin Schwartzenburg. The Gifts for the Mass will be presented by Tiffany Myers and Maggie Rose Dupre.

Mr. Dupre was a native of Washington, LA and a life-long resident of Opelousas. He died on Friday, March 23, 2007, at 2:10 A.M. in the Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

He was an insurance sales agent for over 30 years with Washington Life and State Mutual Insurance. He was a member and an usher of the St. Landry Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council and the Elks Lodge of Opelousas. He was attended the Silent Retreat in Grand Coteau for over 30 years. He was also a proud U. S. Army Veteran of WWII.

Mr. Dupre was an avid Sac-a-lait fisherman at his camp, Erin Go Braugh on Bayou Courtableau where he and Molly dearly enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include three sons: James C. Dupre, Jr. and wife, Jan of Prairieville; David Dupre and wife, Laura of Opelousas; and Shawn Dupre and wife, Kim of Lafayette; one daughter, Helen Schwartzenburg of Opelousas; one brother, Erwin Vidrine of Lawtell; Grandchildren: Tiffany Myers, M. J. Schwartzenburg, Annie Molly Bracewell, Leslie Dupre, Spring Schwartzenburg, Jamie Dupre, Jill Worthington, Maggie Rose Dupre, Elizabeth Dupre, and Victoria Dupre; and 14 great grandchildren.

Mr. Dupre was preceded in death by his beloved Irish wife for over 50 years, Molly Lagan Dupre; his mother, Olivia Dupre Vidrine; his father, Mentor Dupre; and his best friend, Chic Dechicchis.

Pallbearers will be Octave Pavy, M. J. Schwartzenburg, Steve Gremillion, Nick Gerald, Ivan Bourgogne, and Tommy Diesi.

Visiting hours will be observed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.

A Special Thanks to Mike Purser and the wonderful staff at Prompt Succor Nursing Home for their great care and attention. Also many prayers and great support were given to the family and Mr. Dupre by the sisters from the Marianites of Holy Cross.
