Opelousas -Funeral services for Mr. James Willard Cushman will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. Interment will follow at the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Rev. Johnathan Lewis will officiate the services. Military funeral honors will follow at the cemetery.
Mr. Cushman was a native of Whiteville and longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at the age of 92, at his home in Opelousas. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. He worked for Holsum Bread for over 28 years. He enjoyed being outside spending time hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Violet Cushman of Opelousas; one son, Darrell Cushman of Opelousas; two sisters, Oner Grace Tatman and Mary Lou Hutchins, both of Opelousas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Henry Cushman and Jacintha Huffpauir Cushman; two brothers, Charles Cushman and Luther Cushman; and one sister, Lucille Campbell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Fontenot, Derek Fontenot, Dwayne Hutchins, David Matt, Gary Young, and John Hammond.
