Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for James Breaux, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Reverend Austin Leger will conduct the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. James, age 90, a resident of Opelousas passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Opelousas General Health System. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. James was a dedicated and hard working employee with Schlumberger for many years up until his retirement. Following his retirement he and his wife, Rita enjoyed yearly crabbing trips to Grand Isle. They also enjoyed dancing together at the Southern Club. James enjoyed tending to his garden, cutting his grass and raising chickens; but most of all he loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Jody Anderson of Phoenix, AZ, Candice Breaux and husband, Scott Daigle of Breaux Bridge, Jared Breaux and wife, Megan, of Havana, FL, Joshua Breaux of Lawtell, Jessica Brinkhaus and husband, Brandon of Lawtell; great grandchildren, Gavin Lavergne, Logan Lavergne, Madison Breaux, Jace Breaux, Zane, Collin, Liam and Kasen Brinkhaus; his brother, Lloyd Breaux and wife, Fern and his sister, Lucille Manuel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Breaux; his parents, Walter and Uranie Noel Breaux; two sons, Michael and Larry Breaux; his siblings, Robert Breaux, Charles Breaux, Curly Breaux, Orci Breaux and Bernice Robert.
The family requests visitation be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017. A rosary will be prayed by Reverend Austin Leger at 7:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Friday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Harry Doucet, Joshua Breaux, Jared Breaux, Jody Anderson, Brandon Brinkhaus and Scott Daigle. Honorary pallbearer will be Courtney Carriere.
