James “Boo” Andrus Sr.

Opelousas-A Memorial service will be held for James “Boo” Andrus, Sr. on February 1, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. A visitation will be held on February 1, 2025, in the Sibille Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 5:00 p.m.

James “Boo” Andrus, Sr., a loving man who made his mark on the hearts of those who knew him, passed away peacefully at his home on January 29, 2025, at the age of 75. 

James was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He found joy in the rewarding work of raising chickens, a hobby that brought him a connection to the land and a sense of purpose. His craftsmanship in woodworking was another expression of his creativity and dedication, where he carefully shaped wood into beautiful pieces that told his story.

Above all else, James cherished his grandchildren. His love for them was boundless, and he took great pride in being a part of their lives. He created special moments and memories that will be treasured by his family forever.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Marlene Cortez Andrus; son, Clint Andrus and wife Mindy of Aubrey, TX; daughters, Dana Leonards and husband Josh, of Opelousas, and Darla Andrus Vizina of Opelousas; brother, Garrigues Andrus Jr. of Opelousas; sister, Mathilda Baldwin and husband David of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren, Lorelai Andrus, James Andrus III, Nora Andrus, Ila Andrus, Ezekiel Andrus, Ram Andrus, Jonah Leonards, Vivian Leonards, Eli Leonards, Ada Leonards, Creedence Vizina, Sylvi Vizina and Tristan Vizina, all who were undoubtedly his proudest accomplishments.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Garrigues Andrus and Bernice Amy Andrus.

Though he is no longer with us, James “Boo” Andrus Sr.’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved, remembered for his gentle demeanor, dedication to his hobbies, and the deep affection he held for his family.
