Jack D. Lane
Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Jack D. Lane, 84, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the LA Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.
Rev. Pam Roy will conduct the services.
Mr. Lane was a native of Oberlin and a resident of Opelousas. He died at 10:01 a.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Opelousas General Health System.
He began his adult life as a student at SLI which is presently ULL in Lafayette as a recipient of an academicbasketball scholarship. His college education was interrupted by the war. He served in the U.S. Army taking part in World War II during the European Campaign and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. After the war, he came to Opelousas to take over his father-in-law's insurance business. He was the previous owner of the Opelousas Insurance Agency which he ran successfully for many years. He was a member of the Opelousas American Legion. He was also a past member and served as a past president of the Rotary Club in Opelousas. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and playing golf. He was not only a very personable man who had many friends but also was a very kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Robert E. Bob Lane and wife, Ann Hebert Lane of New Orleans; daughter-in-law, Teri Jarrell Lane of Opelousas; six grandchildren: Jason Lane, Jennifer Lane, Jonathan Lane, Emily Lane, Stephen Lane and Michael Lane; sister-in-law, Margaret Taylor Lane of Baton Rouge; niece, Maggie Lane Evans of Virginia; and nephew, Tommy Lane of Baton Rouge.
Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Estorage Lane; one son, William Bill Davis Lane; his parents: Horace and Mary Elizabeth Cotton Lane; and one brother, Horace Lane.
Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jack's memory to LA Memorial United Methodist Church, 515 E. Bellevue St., Opelousas, LA 70570.
