Opelousas Mass of Christian Burial for Ivy Joseph Thibodeaux, Sr., age 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014, in the St. Bridget Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Mausoleum. Fr. Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass.
Ivy was a resident of Opelousas, where he passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014. Ivy was a WWII Veteran, U.S. Navy and USS Found DuLac. He worked as a pipefitter with Local 198 Union in Baton Rouge. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, LA. He enjoyed cooking, building, family gatherings, gardening and raising farm animals.
Survivors include his children, Morris Thibodeaux of Opelousas, Robert Thibodeaux, of Houma, LA., Ivy Thibodeaux, Jr., of Opelousas, Edwin Thibodeaux and his wife, Debbie of Youngsville, Lucille Brown and her husband, Leroy of Opelousas, and Mary Ann Bertrand and her husband, Barry of Abbeville, nine grandchildren, Torie, Chris, Dustin, Natalie, Rachel, Trey, Blake, Adam, and Victoria, and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rosie Balsamo Thibodeaux, his parents, Maurice and Evelina Guidry Thibodeaux, his son, Mark Anthony Thibodeaux, his siblings, Leo, Alec, Oze, John, Iris Emma, and Beverly.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, October 19, 2014, beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Funeral Home.
