Ivory J. Folks
Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Ivory J. Folks, age 93, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Father Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Ivory was a resident of Opelousas. He died on Monday, March 9, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Ivory began his career as a farmer in the Church Point area. Then, he worked for the City of Opelousas for 10 years. Finally, he worked for over 20 years for the Housing Authority until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church and an usher for many years. He loved his music, playing the accordion, dancing and spending time with his family and many friends. Mr. Ivory was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He will be sadly missed by all.
Mr. Ivory is survived by his wife, Jane Venable Folks of Opelousas; daughters: Bonnie Williams and husband, Hall of New Iberia; and Geraldine Verret and husband, Michael of Lafayette: step-daughters: Priscilla Franklin of Cankton; Martha Fontenot and husband, Ted of Rayne; and Melissa Matt and husband, Greg of Opelousas; step-sons: Byron J. McBride and Benjamin J. McBride, both of Opelousas; sister, Barbara Folks of Opelousas; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren.
Mr. Ivory was preceded in death by his first wife, Rena Thibodeaux Folks; parents, Herbert and Julia Guidry Folks; daughters: Velma Lanclos and Juanita Hernandez; grandchild, Scotty Lanclos; son-in-law, Curley Lanclos; brothers: Houston and Calvin Folks; sisters: and Belle Fontenot and Alice Graffagnino.
