Opelousas -A Funeral Service will be held for Irene "Toot" Checker, age 93 on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will celebrate the service. Interment will follow at the Little Red Church Cemetery in Bellevue, a church that she attended and loved dearly; and will be reunited with all of her family entombed there.

Irene was a resident of Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas and passed away on February 17, 2017 peacefully surrounded by her family. Ms. Irene loved to play bingo, listening to French music and attending family gatherings. She is going to be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her nephews, Frankie Checker and wife Linda Dupre of Opelousas, John Richard and wife Kathryn Cosgrove of Opelousas; three great nieces, Chelsee' Checker, Kalee' Checker and Caroline Cosgrove-Richard; one great nephew, Evan Cosgrove-Richard all of Opelousas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Ameade Foster Checker; sisters, Mary Frances Checker Richard and Ida Checker Lalonde, and niece Theresa Marie Richard.

Visitation for Ms. Irene will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and the Funeral Home will reopen on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. until time of Service. A Rosary Service will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will conduct the Service.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Senior Village Nursing Home for providing excellent and compassionate care for the past 27 years.
