Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Iray Willingham, age 80, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Father Nicky Trahan will celebrate the Mass.

Iray was a native of Port Barre and was a resident of Slidell. He died on Friday, February 5, 2010, at Slidell Memorial Hospital in Slidell, LA.

He was a U. S. Navy veteran who served his country. He was also a welder and Shrimp fisherman for many years. He loved being outdoors doing many things especially welding, shrimping, and deer hunting in the woods. He also spent many hours and miles of journey on his boat while shrimping and coasting along the waterways. He built his boat which was the love of his life, Christina by hand and with lots of pride and welding craftsmanship. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who loved him.

Survivors include one daughter, Iris Armand of Opelousas three grandchildren: Christina Quirk and fianc, Jeremy Istre of Lafayette Blake Soileau and wife, Alyssa of Lafayette and Nick Armand of Lafayette two greatgrandchildren: Logan Quebedeaux of Lafayette and Julian Armand of Opelousas two sisters: Helen Parks of Arnaudville and Lucille Thomas of Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Pallbearers will be Nick Armand, Blake Soileau, Curtis Willingham, Carroll Willingham, Carlos Mistric, and Mike Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Quebedeaux, Julian Armand, Ray Powell, Arlen LeJeune, James McMahon, Russell McKinney, Rick Stanton, and Bill Shivers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Chautin Willingham son, Danny Willingham daughter, Terry Soileau parents: Antoine Willingham and Lucy Babineaux Willingham siblings: Irene Willingham Kidder, Ovide Willingham, and Sherman Willingham and soninlaw, Tommy Soileau.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, February 8, 2010, from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
