OPELOUSAS-A Mass of Christian Burial for Ike B. Chachere, Jr., age 91, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Monsignor Paul Metrejean will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Chachere passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Opelousas General Health System.
Mr. Chachere served his country proudly in the United States Navy on the battleship USS Keersarge during World War II from 1944 to 1947. In his early years, he was a volunteer firefighter and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the Elks. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, cooking and bar-b-queuing for his friends and family and spending time in his mancave. He also loved anything LSU. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gladys Richard Chachere; son, Scott Chachere and wife, Catherine; grandchildren, Jon Scott Chachere II, Catherine "Kati" Nan Chachere and Jefferey Adam Martin; neice, Debra Gratehouse and great-neice, Millie Mayo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike Burchman Chachere, Sr. and Lorraine O'Pry Chachere; son, Larry Ike Chachere; daughter, Barbara Nan Chachere and sisters, Irene Bush and Loalee Gratehouse.
The family requested visiting hours on Monday, April 17, 2017, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A Rosary Service will be prayed on Monday by Deacon Sammy Diesi at 6:30 p.m.
