Opelousas -Funeral services for Mr. Howard F. Young, Jr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015, in the First Baptist Church in Opelousas. Interment will follow at the Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the services.
Mr. Howard was a native and longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the age of 87, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Lafayette.
He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U. S. D. A. after working as a Plant and Pest Control Inspector for many years. He also served as a Charter Member of La Red Pole Cattle Association and Slemco Board Member for 30 plus years. He was also a member of the Gideons and a Deacon of First Baptist Church of Opelousas. As a pastime, he enjoyed being outdoors doing his gardening, cooking for the family, and making jelly to share with the family and friends.
Survivors include his daughters, Donna Y. Urban and husband, Richard "Rick" Urban of Opelousas; and Beverly Y. Baker and husband, Roy Baker of Gueydan; seven grandchildren, Julie Baker Richard, Mark Urban, Roy Baker, Jr., Kristine Urban Olivier, William Baker, Hillary Baker, and Rachel Urban; seven great-grandchildren, Katherine, Saul, Landry, Lucille, Rosalind, Madeline, and Gavin; and five sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Young; his parents, Howard Francis Young, Sr. and Alice Hornsby Young; one brother, and one sister.
Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law and grandsons.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2015, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
