Howard Junior Roberts

Port Barre- Funeral services for Howard Roberts, age 84, known to many as Junior, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Chapel in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

Rev. Joe Russo will officiate the services.

Junior was born in Overstreet, FL, and was a long-time resident of Port Barre. He died on Friday, August 21, 2009, at his home. He was a graduate of Hackberry High School. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. He was a motor machine mate on a P. T. Boat in the Pacific Theatre, participating in the invasion of Okinawa. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Star, and American Area Ribbon. He worked in the oilfield for many years with ODECO as a drilling supervisor.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was known to many family members of the Hackberry area as Rabbit. He loved to cook for his family and friends. He was a great person, friendly to everyone, honest, full of spirit, had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. He was a devoted and loving husband of 60 years and a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mourning his death yet cherishing his memories are his loving wife, Anna Mae Reed Roberts, of Port Barre; and his children: one son, Keith Roberts and wife, Sheila, of Port Barre; two daughters: Dr. Paula Sharkey and husband, Michael, of Port Barre; and Linda Burton and husband, Jim, of Lafayette; eight grandchildren: Alicia Higginbotham, Tara Fontenot, Dustin Roberts, Megan Sharkey, Sarah Sharkey, Emily Roberts, Nick Roberts, and Anna Sharkey; two step granddaughters: Christina Harper and Janean Wood; three great-grandchildren: Gavin Fontenot, Whitney Higginbotham, and William Higginbotham; three step great-grandchildren: Madeline Harper, Hannah Harper, and Kelly Wood.
