Herman Fontenot

Port Barre - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA, for Mr. Herman Fontenot. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Port Barre, LA. Rev. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass Service.
Mr. Herman was a native of Church Point and was a longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 71. He was retired from working in the retail industry for many years. He was a sports fan who enjoyed watching football especially LSU and the New Orleans Saints. As a pastime, he enjoyed fishing. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Herman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. He will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Rita Courville Fontenot of Port Barre; son, Robert Lanclos and wife, Nancy of Arnaudville; daughter, Vicki Lanclos of Arnaudville; sister, Norma Fontenot Thibodeaux of Opelousas; five grandchildren, Kristen Lanclos Thibodeaux, Sydni Lanclos, Matthew Lanclos, Kevin Hawsey, and Marc Matthew Hawsey; and seven great-grandchildren, Payton Hawsey, Chandler Steiner, Leilani Bohrman, Zye Thibodeaux, Caroline Thibodeaux, Jayce Knott, and Lane Knott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Fontenot and Winnie Alice Hollier Fontenot; sister, Dorothy Bearb; and brothers-in-law, Joe Thibodeaux and Lewid Bearb.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Monday, January 19, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
