Henry Monteilh, Jr.

Cankton A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012, at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, LA, for Mr. Henry Monteilh, Jr., 85. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau, LA. Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington will be the celebrant of the Mass. Musical selections will be provided by Ron Moreau and Phyllis Simar.

Henry was a native Palmetto and longtime resident of Sunset. He passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012, at his home. He served his country in the Merchant Marines and later in the US Army. Mr. Monteilh attended Sunset High School. He earned his B. A. Degree from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette and Masters Degree from LSU. He was employed with the St. Landry Parish School system and served as Superintendent of Schools for St. Landry Parish until his retirement.

Mr. Monteilh is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Riberta Richard Monteilh of Sunset his brothers, Ernest Monteilh of Lafayette and John Monteilh of Crowley and his sisters, Dot Monteilh McCrary, Nell Monteilh, and Patsy Monteilh all of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lottie Joseph Monteilh and Henry Monteilh, Sr., and sisters, Katherine Monteilh Fox and Jean Monteilh Armand.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Sunday, December 16, 2012, from 2 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Monteilh and John Monteilh, brothers of the deceased, David Richard, Edward Fox, Jude Duhon and Barry Monteilh, nephews of the deceased.
