Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Helena Castille Sonnier, age 69, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.

Father Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the services.

Mrs. Sonnier was a lifelong resident of Opelousas. She died at 5:40 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2008 in Doctor's Hospital.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre and the Port Barre Lion's Club. She loved to read and play Bingo. She will be sadly missed and her memories will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include one son, Gary P. Chubby Sonnier and wife, Becky of Port Barre; one daughter, Pamela S. Darbonne and husband, Gerald of Leonville; one granddaughter, Sabrina Darbonne of Leonville; two grandsons: Nicholas Darbonne of Leonville; and Brenton Sonnier of Port Barre; three brothers: Nelson Castille and wife, Dot of Opelousas; Ray Allen Castille, Sr. of Opelousas; and John Castille, Jr. of Ville Platte; and one sister, Rita Jeffers and husband, Lester of Opelousas. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Danny Sonnier of Port Barre; one sister-in-law, Wordna May Castille of Opelousas; and special family friends: Armecia Hadley and Chloe Reese Majors.

Mrs. Helena was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Nookie Sonnier of Port Barre; her son, Terry Lane Sonnier of Opelousas; parents: John Castille, Sr. and Gertie Ortego Castille of Prairie Ronde; and one sister, Amy Castille of Eunice.

Pallbearers will be Gary Sonnier, Danny Sonnier, Brenton Sonnier, Gerald Darbonne, Nicholas Darbonne, Nelson Castille, and Ricky Jeffers.

Visiting hours will be observed on Saturday, March 8, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Sunday, visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening in the funeral home.
