Grand Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Helen Mary Domingue Horaist, age 94, on Friday, May 19, 2017, at 12:30 p.m., in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Father Jim Goeke, S.J. will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:30 in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.

Alter Server will be Logan Bertrand, great grandchild. Readers will be Amy DeVillier Gallagher, Nicole DeVillier Bertrand and Kim Horaist Butts. Gift bearers will be Leslie Horaist Richard, Angelique Venable, and Mackenzie Gallagher. Music selections will be Amazing Grace, Ava Maria, Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Are, and On Eagles Wings.

Helen passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Opelousas General Health System.

Her favorite hobbies were sewing and designing evening dresses, prom dresses, wedding dresses, and Mardi Gras costumes. She also loved to bake wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and other holiday cakes. She was a member of the LA Cattlemen's Association and traveled throughout Louisiana attending all festivals. She loved visiting with friends and family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include sons, Delpha Neal Horaist and wife Barbara of Abbeville, LA, and Joseph David Horaist and wife, Brenda of Church Point, daughter, Susan Horaist Castille and husband Armand Castille of Opelousas, and special stepdaughter, Lynn Horaist Venable of Eunice, stepdaughters, Dell Horaist Jordan of New Orleans, LA., and Nell Horaist Pioth of Covington, LA., stepson, Felix Warren Horaist, Jr. and wife Laura of Sunset, daughter in law, Gayle Brasseaux Horaist of Carencro, sister in law, Mackey Domingue, grandchildren, Amy DeVillier Gallagher, Nicole DeVillier Bertrand, Kim Horaist Butts, Chad Horaist, Jerrell Horaist, Jason Horaist, Jake Horaist, Joseph Horaist, Jr., Jordan Horaist and Leslie Horaist Richard, eleven step grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, twenty four step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Warren, Sr., two sons, Ronald James Horaist and Donald Edgar Horaist, three sisters, Merrita Domingue Oldenburg, Lucy Domingue Conques and Juanita Domingue Trahan, four brothers, Frank Domingue, Roy Domingue, Pat Domingue and Harold Domingue, parents, Delpha Domingue and Leota Mouton Domingue.


Pallbearers will be Aaron Conrad, Jerrell Horaist, Chad Horaist, Jake Horaist, Joseph Horaist, Jr., Michael Gallagher, Jr., Jacob Habetz and Neil LeBouef. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. Her granddaughters placing the pall will be Megan Gallagher, Lauren Conrad, Abigail Gallagher, Avery Bertrand, Ava Grace Gallagher, and Jewels Horaist.
