Hazel Marie Robin Stephen

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Marie Robin Stephen, 80, will be held at 4: 00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

Msgr. Louis Melancon will conduct the Mass. Readings will be done by Mrs. Hazel's nephew, Father George Gennuso, Jr. Musical selections will be: Be Not Afraid, The Old Rugged Cross, and Amazing Grace. Vocalist will be Merry Sue Hill, Mrs. Stephen's niece.

Hazel was a native of Leonville and a long-time resident of Opelousas. She died at 6:25 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2007, at her residence. After Hazel brought up her children, she began working with Lollipop Head Start in Opelousas. With the support of her friend, Barbara Pickney, Hazel was able to work, go to college, take care of her Mother and keep things going at home, all at the same time. Hazel received her college degree on the same night that her youngest daughter graduated from high school and chose to remain at Lollipop Headstart for 31 years. She enjoyed Pokeno, the VFW Womens Auxiliary, and Bingo work and charity projects. She touched many lives and will be missed dearly

Hazel leaves the gifts of Love, Faith, Patience, and Courage to her devoted family. The family which she leaves includes her husband of 61 years, Mr. Joseph Clarence Stephen; three sons: Sonny Stephen and wife, Babette; Eugene Stephen and Johnny Stephen; three daughters: Carol Stephen, Connie Marks and husband, Johnny; and Paula Pierrottie and husband, Greg; and one sister, May Eubanks and husband, Carl; and sister-in-law Dean Robin; and brother-in-law George Gennuso and a good family friend Beverlee Foreman. She also has 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents: Adam and Ophelia Robin of Leonville; brothers: Pierre Robin and Adam Robin, Jr.; and sisters: Ida Courville, Alzera Perry, Hilda Gennuso, Sybil Brashear, Lucy Cahanin and Gloria Robin.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Stephen, Paul Stephen, Johnny Marks, Greg Pierrottie, Cody Wyble and Link Prejean. Honorary pall bearer will be Brennon Smith.

Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday, August 23, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 11 a.m. and will continue with an all-night wake until 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2007. The rosary service will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
