Opelousas Funeral services for Hassa Babineaux, age 84, will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell. Father Austin Leger will officiate the services.
Hassa, a native of Ville Platte, was a longtime resident of Lawtell. She passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011, at Opelousas General Health System, surrounded by her family.
Hassa was a member of the Ladies Alter Society of St. Bridget Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family, making quilts, entertaining her friends, having coffee her passion was her Rosary group when she was able to go. She loved to work in her garden. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grand mother that will be sadly missed by all her loved ones.
Survivors include her loving husband, of 65 years Mr. Harry Babineaux of Lawtell, her children Jimmy Babineaux of Amelia, LA, Daniel Ray Babineaux and wife, Linda of Lawtell, Cary Babineaux of Lawtell, Kathy Lanclos her husband, Raymond of Prairie Ronde, and Ivy Dale Soileau and husband, Lynn of Prairie Ronde, her sisters, Norma Jean Joubert, Eva Nell Soileau both of Ville Platte, eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Orise and Eudie LeFleur Chapman, her three sisters, and seven brothers.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, from 10 AM until 10:00 PM. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 AM until 10:30 AM.
A rosary service will be held Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel.
