Harvey Bobby Brinkman
Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Harvey Bobby J. Brinkman, age 83, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008, at La. Memorial United Methodist Church, Opelousas, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery, Opelousas. The Reverend Pam Roy will conduct the service.
Mr. Brinkman was born in Pitreville, La and was a long time resident of Opelousas. He passed away at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008, at Senior Village Nursing Home, Opelousas.
Mr. Harvey Bobby was a graduate of Church Point High School in Church Point. He served our Nation during WWII in the US Army as a sergeant in the Pacific Campaign; he received the following citations: WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Award. During his life he was a farmer and later was a cemetery sales counselor for Bellevue Memorial Park for more than 30 years. Bobby also was a sales counselor for First National Life Insurance Co. and also the Guardian Plan Life Insurance Co. for many years. He was a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and cooking. Bobby was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who always had a friendly word for everyone he met. Mr. Harvey will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bessie Bradley Brinkman, Opelousas; his daughters; Frances Kimball and husband Patrick of Lafayette, Libby Henderson and husband John of Chatawa, Miss., Jean Scott and husband Gerald of New Iberia, and Lynn Bates and husband Steve of New Iberia; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by his parents: George and Mary Belle Pitre Brinkman, sisters; Grace Hornsby and Margaret Woolhiser.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, June 22, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Mr. Brinkmans family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Richard Tate, Dr. Richard Harmon and the staff of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative, and the staff of Senior Village Nursing Home for their extended professional care and kindness.
