Grand Coteau A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau for Mr. Harry Byers, Jr. Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery.
Mr. Harry passed away on January 5, 2014 at his home, at the age of 87. He was the owner of the Byers Frankfurter Hot Dog Company and the Byers Floor Waxing Company.
Mr. Byers was born to Harry Byers, Sr. and Elosia Parker Byers on August 26, 1926 in Crowley, LA. As a teenager he went to New York to work for his uncle. Being extremely industrious, he worked and frankfurter cart and quite a few various other jobs for his uncle until he had saved enough to buy his own business. He became an entrepreneur, owning and operating numerous business and land holding until he retired and returned to La. Because he was a junior, Harry was always known to the family as June and the nickname followed him his entire life. Mr. Byers was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Mr. Byers leaves to mourn for him his daughter, Harriet Byers Weaver of Orlando, Florida, his grandchildren, Harry D. Byers and Johnitha V. Pugh of Orlando Florida. Great Grandchildren Gabriella Byers, Madisson Pharp, Marcus Byers, James Byers, Jared and Kazsha Pugh all of Orlando, Florida. His SoninLaw, Mr. Donald Speight and Granddaughters Alicia Speight, Alliyah Speight, of New York. Also niece Patricia Briscoe of New York and a host of other nieces and nephews and friends and special friend and neighbor, Deane Pecora, who was a close friend and confidant and cared for him the last years of this earthly life.
Mr. Byers was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Mable Byers, his daughter, Felecia Byers Speight and, his parents, and his brother Walter and sisters, Lillian and Audrey.
Special thanks to Hospice Compass for the care and comfort for Mr. Byers and friends during his illness. Sunday, Brandi, and Gwen you were always there when we needed you.
Visiting hours will be observed in the St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau on Monday, January 13, 2014, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11.00 a.m.
Family and friends will gather after at the K.C. Hall located on the church grounds.
A Rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the church.
