Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Harold Gene Hebert, known to many as Gene, age 74, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2011, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father Paul Bienvenu will officiate the service.
Gene was a native of Port Barre and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at his home after a long battle of cancer.
He was a past graduate of Port Barre High School where he was part of the football team. He was a U. S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country. He was a Route Salesman for many years. Then, he retired from Phoenix Fittings formerly Standard Fittings. At the time of his illness, he was working for Lofton Securities as a security guard at Alon in Krotz Springs.
In his spare time, he loved music, singing, and playing the guitar. He also enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and crawfishing doing carpenter projects around the house, and spending time with the family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Helen Tate Hebert of Opelousas three sons, Jerry John Hebert and wife, Carrie of Opelousas Ryan Hebert and fianc, Laura Klein of Arnaudville and Bryan Hebert of Arnaudville one daughter, Brenda Melancon and husband, Leo of Carencro one brother, Donald Ray Hebert of Opelousas one sister, Susan Susie Boudreaux and husband, Bobby of Port Barre 4 grandchildren and 2 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amason Hebert and Aglia Prudhomme Hebert two sisters, Georgina Guidroz and Ella Mae Andrus three brothers, A. J. Hebert, Patrick Hebert, and John Willard Hebert two sistersinlaw, Mary Lou Hebert and Rhona Boutte Tate and three brothersinlaw, Harry Guidroz, Willie Andrus, and Melvin Tate.
Pallbearers will be Jerry J. Hebert, Sr., Ryan Hebert, Bryan Hebert, Jerry J. Hebert, Jr., Jonathan Hebert, and Leo Melancon. Honorary Pallbearer will be Lukas Rowland.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, August 5, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30a.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
The family would like to express deep appreciation and thanks to the staff of HCOA of Opelousas especially, Tee, Liz, Andrea, and Alicia for their wonderful care which was given to Gene and the family.
