Hal Guillory

Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Hal Kent Guillory, age 71, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Mausoleum in Ville Platte.

Father James Brady will celebrate the Mass.

He was a resident of Opelousas and passed away at Lafayette General Medical Center on August 4, 2011, after a three month battle with leukemia.

Hal was born in Ville Platte, LA, the son of Odey and Aurelin Guillory. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte. After high school, he volunteered and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army for two years. After his military service, he furthered his education at Gradwhol School of Medical Technology in St. Louis, MO. Hal spent his professional years at Opelousas General Hospital where he retired after 43 years of service.

Hal was an avid golfer and long time member of the Indian Hills Country Club, having served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge of Opelousas. Hals passions in life, other than his family, were golf, LSU sports, spending time playing cards and enjoying the company of his many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan Morein Guillory of Opelousas son, Mitchell Kent Guillory and his wife, Jill Gassen Guillory of Covington daughter, Paula Guillory Campesi and her husband, Brad of Baton Rouge as well as, three grandsons, Justin Guillory, Brennan Campesi and Grant Campesi. He is also survived by two sisters, Verna Demoruelle and her husband, Owen of Ville Platte and Beryl Day and her husband, Leon of Lafayette as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Odey Guillory of Ville Platte a nephew, Paul Day, and two nieces, Kim Hynson and Carla Forbes.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the loving oncology nursing staff at Lafayette General Medical Center, Hospice of Acadiana, as well as, Dr. James Cole and the staff of Louisiana Oncology Associates.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, August 8, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

An Elks Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. and a Rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
