LEONVILLE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Gustave "Gus" R. Breaux, Jr., age 94, on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Reverend Ken Domingue will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the St. Leo the Great Mausoleum.
Mr. Gus was the 7th of nine children. He was born and raised on the family farm in Notleyville, LA. He graduated Leonville High School in 1941. Gus enlisted in the United State Army Air Corps in 1942. During WWII he served on Okinawa in the Pacific Theater assigned to a B-29 squadron. In 1952 and 1955 he served in Korea. He also served during the Berlin Air Lift, The Cuban Crisis, Vietnam and three years in Turkey. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968 with 28 years of Military duty, with the rank of Chief Master (CMSgt) E-9.
Mr. Gus was a life member of the Leonville Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree. He was a life member of the Jules B. Jeanmard Assembly 4th degree, the Arnaudville V.F.W. 5155, the American Legion of Leonville Post 278, the Air Force Association and the National Association of Uniformed Services.
Survivors include his two sons, Patrick R. Breaux (Maj. USAF Retired) and wife, Lisa of O' Fallon , IL, Thomas L. Breaux (ARMY) of Leonville, LA; grandchildren, Scott Deville, Travis Clark, Jessica Migues, Aaron, Thaddeaus, Laiken, Collin, Jayden, Katherine Rose, and Natheniel Breaux; brother Veron Breaux and wife, Cinny of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Marie Louise Breaux Shexnailder and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lilly Badeaux Breaux; parents, Louise Stelly Breaux and Gustave Breaux, Sr.; daughter, Sandra Kay Breaux Clark; brothers, Warren, Leo and Roy Breaux; sisters, Girtrude Breaux Rivette, Thelma Breaux Jones and Muriel Breaux Payne.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Breaux, Thomas Breaux, Teddy Stelly, Kyle Stelly, Thaddeaus Breaux and Collin Breaux.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758532, Topeka, KS 66675-8532.
