OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Goldie Louise Smith DeChicchis, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014, in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery with Fr. James Brady and Deacon Sammy Diesi as the celebrants.
Mrs. Goldie was a lifelong resident of Opelousas. She died on Monday, December 8, 2014, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home. She was the Chief Deputy Clerk with the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Courts Office for a number of years and served as interim Clerk of Court making her the first female Clerk of Court for St. Landry Parish. She was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church. She was a charter member of the Elks Auxiliary and was also a member of the Young At Hearts. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include one son, Albert DeChicchis and wife, Ingrid of Athens, Georgia one daughter, Jo Ann Kearney and Husband, Andrew of Houston, Texas four grandchildren, and eleven greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard DeChicchis parents, Clement Smith and Constance Andrus Smith and two sisters, Sadie Castille and Grace Oge.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Kearney, Stephen Kearney, Timothy DeChicchis, Jonathan Kearney, Drew Kearney, and Alex Kearney. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Oge, Alex Andrus, Ward Oge, Charles Oge, Robert Oge, and Mark Oge.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to LA Hospice and Palliative Care or to the charity of your choice.
Special Thanks to the staff and doctors of Prompt Succor Nursing Home and LA Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful care which was given to Mrs. Goldie.
Visiting hours will be held in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, December 12, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
