Glinden Leger

June 20, 1935 — April 7, 2018

Opelousas - Funeral service for Glinden "Glen" Leger, 82, will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Fr. Austin Leger will conduct the service. Rite of Committal will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Glen died on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Glen was the only son born to Camille and Mable Dupre of Prairie Ronde on June 20, 1935. After his elders passed away, he became the patriarch of his family and lovingly referred to as our rock. This is a hat he wore with pride and was always willing to help those in need without a need of recognition for himself.

Glen was a self-made man with his wife Lillian Lejeune along his side every step of the way. He began his career in farming while serving in the National Guard.
He decided to try the oilfield with Halliburton but missed being away from his family and children.
He and Lil decided to come home to farm and also began working as a butcher at A&P. Glen made contact with many people at A&P and this prompted him to become a real estate broker and developer.

While juggling all these jobs, he was also a school bus driver with St. Landy Parish School Board for over 30 years. His next venture was working for the St. Landy Parish Sheriff Adler Ledoux as assistant investigator under Frank Guidroz.

He was then elected Police Jury for 8 years. He was a drayman for 36 years for the State of LA. He was also a lifetime member of the KC Council #3409, Elks Lodge, LA Cattlemans Association, LQHBA, LA Border Colllie Association and a member of the Sheriffs 300 Club.

As Glen started to slowly retire his favorite pastime was working and training his border collie dogs or keeping up his farmland. Glen enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was most proud of his 4 granddaughters and 6 great-grandchildren.

Glen was a great storyteller of childhood stories and always remained true to his country roots.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 1/2 years, Mrs. Lillian Lejeune Leger, daughters, Cindy Leger Prather and her husband, Randy, and Pam Leger Harmon and her husband, Keith all of Opelousas, grandchildren, Katie Miller and her husband, J.W., Christina Belton and her husband, Kevin, Chelsea Mistric and her husband, Dustin, Savanna Boss and her husband, Jarret, great grandchildren, Lily and Kade Miller, Carter and Cameron Belton, Levi Mistric, and Weston Boss, sister, Myrna Leger Martin and her husband, Terry of Lafayette and her 2 children Scott & Michelle and a special niece Gwen Hidalgo Boudreaux and a host of nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by parents, Camille and Mable Leger, son, Dwayne Leger, his in-laws, Adam and Leta Lejeune, brother-in-law, Abram Lejeune, nephews, Harold Lejeune, Michael Wartelle and Kent Hidalgo and sister, Wanda Hidalgo.

The family would like to extend thanks to Lafayette General ICU Trauma Center and all of the wonderful nurses.

Also special thanks to his personal secretary of 18 years Michelle Higdon.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, 2017 from 3:00 pm till 9:00 pm and will reopen on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am until time of service.

A rosary service will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Monday evening in the funeral home with Deacon Sammy Diesi.
