Opelousas - Funeral services for Mrs. Ghislaine Jackie Benoit, age 69, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Benoit Cemetery in Swords, La.
Msgr. Robert Romero will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Benoit was a native of Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada and long-time resident of Opelousas. She died on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Opelousas General Hospital Health System. Jackie served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Landry Catholic Church and was a teacher's assistant at Opelousas Catholic School for 18 years. She also enjoyed teaching art and French to many children. She is going to be missed by her family but they know she is dancing in Heaven now. Jackie was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Frederick Fred Benoit of Opelousas; sons, Mario Benoit and wife Maria of Lafayette, Michael Benoit and wife Jeanette of Dallas, Ga.; brothers, Gabriel Theriault of Edmundston, N.B.; sisters, Huguette Murphy of Canada, Carmen Theriault of Canada, Murielle Theriault of Canada, Rose Aimee Ouilette of Maine, Rein Marie Theriault of Canada, Olivette Yong of Canada, Raymonde Hebert of Canada; grandchildren, Christina Benoit, Brianna Benoit, Jonathan Benoit, Sabrina Benoit and Olivia Benoit.
Jackie was preceded in death by a grandson, Kirby Benoit; parents, Levite and Isabelle Dube Theriault; and brother, Jean Theriault.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
Jackie's family would like to say thank you to all her friends and family who stood by her through the good and bad times. A special thanks to Dr. Meza and his wonderful staff for all the loving care shown to Jackie through the years.
