Gertrude Beryl DeVillier Fontenot
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Beryl DeVillier Fontenot, age 76, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas.
Father Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the services.
Mrs. Fontenot was a resident of Opelousas and died on Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Prompt Succor Nursing Facility in Opelousas.
Mrs. Fontenot was born on August 27, 1932, in Port Barre, LA, to Adam Cleveland DeVillier and Elizabeth Wyble DeVillier. She attended Port Barre Elementary and High School. She then moved to Garden Grove, California, and graduated from Garden Grove Union High School.
She is survived by one sister, Rebecca DeVillier Sylvester and husband, Berchman Sylvester of Opelousas; and five brothers: Dr. John Lincoln DeVillier and daughter, Anne DeVillier of Carrollton, Georgia; John DeVillier of Las Vegas, Nevada; Joseph Claude DeVillier and wife, Frances of Castro Valley, California; Dr. Albert Billy DeVillier and wife, Judy of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and James DeVillier Richard and wife, Carrie of Houston, TX. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leroy Fontenot of Opelousas; her parents: Adam Cleveland DeVillier and Elizabeth Wyble DeVillier of Port Barre; three sisters: Myrtle DeVillier Daspit of Abbeville; Anna Lee DeVillier Vidrine of Kenner; and Shirley DeVillier Sprotti of San Francisco, California; and three brothers: Leon Fabian DeVillier of Garden Grove, California; Adam Floyd DeVillier of Kenner; and Leo Sherman DeVillier of San Bernardino, California.
Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, December 10, from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for the public in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Thursday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorial donations be sent to LA Hospice and Palliative Care.
