Gertie Girlie French
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Marie Detillier French, age 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010, Monsignor Keith DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Mass of Christian Burial in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Musical selections will be provided by Jodi Bollick. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Girlie was a native of Mathews, La and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. She died on Friday, September 24, 2010, at Opelousas General Health System. She enjoyed spending time visiting and cooking with her family and friends. She was a wonderful and loving wife, and a very devoted mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. Girlie and her husband Knowles were owners at one time of Frenchs SeaBreeze Apartments in Grand Isle, La and Frenchs Grocery Store in Port Barre. She is going to be missed by family and all that knew her. The family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and staffs of Opelousas General Health System, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Facility and La. Hospice and Palliative Care for their kindness and support for Ms. Gertie.
Survivors include one son: Knowles French, Jr. of Metairie grandson, Clint York and wife Becky great granddaughter, Brittany Lafleur and husband Brandon special friends John and Janice McKnight and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Knowles French, Sr. parents, Alcide and Marceline Matherne Detillier daughter, Faith McKnight granddaughters, Danna and Paula York great grandson, Shea Healy sisters, Pearl Gaudet, Lena Weeden and Mary Rogers brothers, Ivy, Harvey, Kancis and Tilman Detillier.
Pallbearers will be John McKnight, Robert Griffin, Charles Helmer, Clint York, Brandon Lafleur, and Bob Casanova.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
A Rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
