Opelousas- Funeral services for Mr. Gerald James Kidder, Sr., age 75, born September 20, 1939, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Msgr. Louis Melancon will be the celebrant for the Mass of Christian Burial. Readings will be by Chelsea Mistric and Allison Kidder. Songs will be sung by Valerie Andrus.
Gerald was a native of Carencro and longtime residence of Opelousas. He died on Sunday, July 19, 2015, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Gerald worked at American Bank & Trust Co. for 25 years, St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office as a deputy, and St. Landry Parish School Board where he retired after 16 years. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and all of his grandchildren who he cherished very much. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed raising his cattle on his family farm and camping whenever possible. He was a parishioner at St. Landry Catholic Church. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Janice Harmon Kidder of Opelousas; children, Karen K. Brown and husband, Glenn of Carencro; Jerry Kidder and wife, Shelly of Carencro; Kevin Kidder and wife, Kay of Carencro; and Joyce Kidder Moody and husband, Ed of Mississippi; father-in-law, Marion Harmon of Opelousas; his grandchildren: Morgan Brown, Riley Brown, Allison Kidder, Kristen Kidder, Landon Kidder, Loghan Kidder, Lane Kidder, Taylor Morales, and Manning Moody; two nieces, Chelsea Harmon Mistric and husband, Dustin; and Katie Manuel Miller and husband, JW; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Lily Miller, Kade Miller, and Levi Mistric.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Yves Kidder and Helen Cormier Kidder; mother-in-law, Lois Dupre Harmon.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Kidder, Kevin Kidder, Glenn Brown, Ed Moody, Dustin Mistric, JW Miller, and Keith Harmon.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the Funeral Home. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
