Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Kossuth Jerry Doucet, age 78, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Hall in Washington. Private Interment will be held at a later date in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Rev. Albert G. Nunez will celebrate the Mass.
Jerry was a resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Opelousas General Health System.
He graduated from Opelousas High School and received a degree in agriculture from SLI. Jerry was a U. S. Army Veteran who served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid Cattleman and Farmer. He was employed by U. S. Ag. Department until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and running his fox hounds and also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful and supporting husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Irene Soileau Doucet of Opelousas his children, Paul Doucet and his wife, Kelly of Opelousas Drew Doucet and his wife, Connie of Amite, LA and Dr. Deborah Johnson, MD, of Lafayette and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kossuth and Alida Mouret Doucet and sisters, Patricia Doucet Badon, Velma Martin, and Gloria Coltharp.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Hall in Washington.
A Rosary service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Opelousas Area Cerebral Palsy Clinic.
