Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Benson, age 75, will be held at 1: 00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the St. Thomas Church Cemetery in Palmetto.

Rev. Nicky Trahan will officiate the services.

Mr. Gerald was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Dupont. He died on Thursday, December 6, 2007, in the Avoyelles Hospital. He enjoyed watching sports especially football.

Survivors include two step sons: Kenneth Dupuis and wife, Linda of Coleman, TX; and Noah Dupuis and wife, Andrea of Magnolia, TX; two step daughters: Wanda Naquin and husband, Robert Naquin, Jr. of Dupont; and Alfern Firmin of Opelousas; two half brothers: Earl Benson and wife, Kathy of Lafayette; and Robert Bobby Benson and wife, Cookie of Lafayette; one sister, Virginia Pitre of Baton Rouge; three half sisters: Thelma Cormier and husband, Don; Patsy Sonnier and husband, Charles; and Helen Lauff and husband, Joey; all of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Olga Lee Marks Benson; his parents: Harold Joseph Benson, Sr. and Gervis Benson; two brothers: Harold Joseph Benson, Jr. and Jack Wayne Benson, Sr.; one half sister, Joycelyn Domingue and stepmother, Angelena Benson Landry.

Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

A Rosary service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.
