Georgia Melancon

Opelousas- Funeral services for Georgia Lavergne Melancon, age 79, will be held at 10 :00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27 , 2009, at our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.

Mrs. Georgia was born in Blue Springs, LA. and was a long time residence of Opelousas. She died on October 23, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Georgia is survived by her four sons; Malcolm Melancon and wife Rita of Opelousas, Merlin Melancon and wife Judy of Opelousas, Huey Melancon and wife Cindy of Tenn., and Patrick Melancon and wife Veronica of Thailand, one daughter; Marlene Hooks and husband Jeffery of Montgomery AL., one sister; Mrs. Verlis Thibodeaux, of Opelousas, twenty grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Melancon, one daughter, Judy Melancon Ardoin, parents, Noah and Edna Castille Lavergne, her two brothers; Ory Lavergne, and Saul, three sisters; Helen Savoy, Ethel Bordelon, Juanita Theirot.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home on Monday, October 26, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
