George Soileau
Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for George Soileau age 76, will be held at 1:00 p.m. pending on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, La. Rev. Father Gregory Semien will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Soileau, a resident of Opelousas, died at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Opelousas General Health System. Mr. George was a 1956 graduate of Port Barre High School. Later he was drafted into the US Army where he served until honorably discharged. In 1965 he was employed by Coburns Supply Co., Inc. where he served as Opelousas Branch Manager and Senior VicePresident and General Manager of the Lafayette Region and retired after 45 years. George was well known for his Wednesday night suppers and his locally famous seasoning. In retirement he was enjoying performing Grampsduties by loving and caring for his grandchildren as well as researching his genealogy.
George is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Culotta Soileau, four children, Tricia Chad Smith of Opelousas, Chantal Melancon of Leonville, Nicole Bart Spell of Opelousas and Guy Thomas Soileau of Opelousas six grandchildren, Cole Andrew and Luke Anthony Smith, Landon Levis and Kale Christopher Melancon, and Cora Leigh and Sadie Marie Spell one sister, Sybil Trosclair of Opelousas two brothers, Aubrey Soileau and Gary Soileau both of Port Barre as well as a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends who love him dearly. He is going to be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mable Moran Soileau and one brother, Edward Soileau all of Port Barre.
Pallbearers will be godchildren, George Ricky Moran, Todd Soileau, David Culotta and Travis Soileau brother, Gary Soileau and nephew, Jason Soileau. Honorary pallbearers will be brother, Aubrey Soileau and son, Guy Soileau.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The Elks Club of Opelousas will conduct the Elks Service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
