Leonville A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville for Mr. George John Miller, known to his family as Poppa. Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the St. Leo Cemetery Mausoleum. Rev. Father Kenneth Domingue will celebrate the Mass.
George was a native of Arnaudville and longtime resident of Leonville. He passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 72. He was retired from working as a Machinist in a machine shop for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his wife, children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and friends. He loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Bergeron Miller of Leonville one son, Michael John Miller and companion, Vicky Guidroz of Leonville two daughters, Vella Knott and husband, Calvin of Leonville and Melissa Winningham and husband, J. C. Winningham, Jr. of Leonville two brothers, Russell Miller of Port Barre and Ray Miller of Prairieville two sisters, Priscilla Kidder of Parks and Bertha Richard of Prairieville six grandchildren, Brooke Taylor, Jordan Knott, Jamie Stelly, Dustin Robin, Chad John Miller, and Ashley Nichole Miller and seven greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Darla Jean Miller his parents, John Miller and Mary Bergeron Miller two sisters, Bessie Ortego and Guilda Miller brother, Wallace Miller and greatgranddaughter, Addison Lace Robin.
Pallbearers will be Michael Miller, Jordan Knott, Dustin Robin, Chad Miller, Scotty Taylor, and Brandon Stelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Knott and J. C. Winningham.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, January 6, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
