George Big George Hardy, Jr.
Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. George Big George Hardy, Jr., 73, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church and burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.
Father Nicky Trahan will conduct the services.
Mr. Hardy was a native and life long resident of Port Barre. He died at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at his residence in Port Barre. He was known to many as Big George and will be missed by his family and friends. Mr. George was currently employed as a truck driver for M. B. Darby Feed and Grain. He was co-owner of Sam Grimmette Trucking and also was a truck driver for many years.
Mr. Hardy was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the V. F. W. and a past member of the Knights of Columbus both of Port Barre.
Survivors include four sons: George Hardy III and wife, Sherry; David Hardy, and Greg Hardy and wife, Tammy, all of Port Barre; and Michael Hardy and wife, Jenny of Opelousas; three daughters: Patricia LeJeune and husband, Burnell of Scott; Verna Doucet and husband, Carl of Lafayette; and Nicole Guidroz and husband, Timmy of Port Barre; three brothers: John E. Hardy of Arnaudville; Danny Hardy and Sammy Hardy, both of Port Barre; one sister, Barbara H. Fontenot of Port Barre; 13 grandchildren: Lori Latiolais, Kadi LeJeune, Jade and Thomas Hardy, Dirk and Jordan Hardy, Piper and Gregory Hardy II, Lizzy and T. J. Guidroz, Chris, Kyle, and Justin Hardy; and one great-grandchild, Payton Hardy.
Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Juanita Hardy, his daughter, Liz Hardy; his parents: Lennie George Hardy, Sr. and Lucille Grimmette Hardy; one sister, Elizabeth Jean Hardy; and one brother, Robert Hardy, Sr..
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. with an all night wake until the time of services on Tuesday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in his memory to the Port Barre Veterans Honor Guard, P. O. Box 817, Krotz Springs, LA 70750.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre.
